West Hollywoof Bans The Retail Sale of Cats and Dogs!
The West Hollywoof City Council voted and passed legislation banning the retail sale of cats and dogs in local pet stores this week. Pet stores will have until September 17th to comply and only pet stores that "re-home" rescued or shelter animals will be able to continue business operations.
After an investigation of a local pet store selling animals from puppy mills, Councilmember Jeffrey Prang drafted the ordinance that was backed by many local and national animal welfare organizations. Once the public heard about the vote, many including myself and my MamaBear barked letters to the City Council asking them to pass this landmark legislation and pass it did, UNANIMOUSLY.
I know those awful puppymillers are shaking in their boots because they know that as more and more cities pass similar legislation, their days are numbered and boy is my tail wagging at that! My MamaBear tells me its not nice to bite people but I don't think she'd have a problem with me biting a puppymiller in the ass.
How cruel and disgusting those monsters are fur their inhumane, cruel and evil treatment of my animal furiends all for a profit. My tail does not wag for animal exploitation. Meanwhile, more and more animals die in city and county shelters. How anyone could breed animals while so many are dying in the shelters is beyond comprehension. The City estimated that in 2009 alone, 35,000 dogs and 67,000 cats were euthanized in Los Angeles city and county animal shelters alone, imagine what those numbers are nationwide.
No longer is "I want a pure bred ____" a good enough excuse because guess what?! You can find pure breed animals in the shelters and rescue groups too. Here are a few of my rescued pure breed anipals:
Jasper is a 5 lb. Yorkie rescued from death row.

Rudy is a pure bred Xoloitzcuintli or Mexican Hairless. He was rescued from the pound after running the streets as a stray.
And my little sister Mouse who was also rescued from death row.
Not only are there all breed rescues but there are breed specific rescue groups so if the public can't find the breed they're looking fur in the pound then they can go on http://www.petfinder.com/ and search by breed, size, age, sex, location, etc. Never before has it been so easy to do the right thing.

Healthy Spot West Hollywoof Grand Opening
My favorite pawtique in Los Angeles is the Healthy Spot. Last weekend they opened their second location in West Hollywoof! MamaBear and Mouse went to the grand opening pawty and had a lot of fun.
There was also a raffle and a silent auction and all of the proceeds went to Best Friends. Mouse won a new collar from My Charmed Pet in the auction. It's pink italian leather with black swarovski stones.
The festivities began early and there was a crowd around the store fur the ribbon cutting. When they came in, all the guests were treated to gift bags filled with lots of goodies from Honest Kitchen, Stella and Chewy's, Ziwi Peak, Evo, and Isle of Dogs to name a few. I've pawed around a lot of dog events and Healthy Spot by far has the best doggy bags!
In the "barking lot" was a pawty with lots of store vendors like Resvantage, Souplaments, Happy Tails, Jax and Bones and many, many num num vendors like Stella and Chewy's.
The Healthy Spot is very generous and all their events always benefit an animal welfare group and the grand opening was no different. They chose Best Friends Animal Society and invited the LA Programs to bring their mobile adoption fair to the store. The dogs had so much fun playing in the doggy daycare area and a couple even got adopted! There was also a raffle and a silent auction and all of the proceeds went to Best Friends. Grace (http://www.shinepetphotos.com/) was there as the official phodographer of the day and I created a slideshow of her photos to share!

Mama Engraved Keychain
This is so cool I just I had to bark about it. For Christmas, Auntie Tiffanie had a keychain with Mama's image engraved on it fur my MamaBear.
She used one of the photos from the Shine Pet Photos photoshoot and it really made my MamaBear happy.
Auntie Tiffanie had it done at Diamonds & Designs by None Other Goldsmiths in Ohio. It's a really simple and elegant way for MamaBear to carry little Mama wherever she goes.

Los Angeles Pet Expo
The Los Angeles Pet Expo was last weekend at the LA Convention Center. Pawtnered with the Go Green Expo, the pet area aimed to bring green pet exposure to the attending vendors and guests.
The Go Green Expo had lots of pawsome vendors and my MamaBear even picked up a couple of bamboo shirts from Zavella that are super soft and have hoods to keep her warm on our walks.
The Pet Expo was in the far corner of the Go Green Expo and was really small with very few vendors. I have to say my tail did not wag as much as I thought it would. There were some interesting booths like Eco-Me, a DIY company for pet cleanup and care. They use all natural ingredients in addition to common household items to bring us dogs treats and sprays to clean up after us. Nature's Organic Pet was also there and is another great product formulated by a vet and offers natural supplements and grooming products.
There were food companies such as Earthborn Holistic who gave out generous samples, and Red Moon which creates and ships custom pet food to their clients.
I also got to sniff the Honda Element fur dogs. It's really pawsome. There's a dog ramp, the interior has dogs on it and the rubber floor mats (fur no slipping) have dog bones on them.
When we weren't barking with vendors, Mouse and I hung out at the Four Legged Friends Foundation booth. We were there to bark at visitors about their really pawtastic program Another Sunny Day Fund which offers financial assistance to individuals for vet care that they otherwise could no afford in order to keep their animals.
It was a long day of sniffing, tail wagging, barking and fun. When Mouse and I got home we ate our dinner and took a snooze dreaming of all that we had seen that day.

Pet Scarves from DOGO Pet Fashions
Mouse and I got these really cute dog scarves from DOGO Pet Fashions. MamaBear picked them up at the Healthy Spot awhile back and they're really coming in paw this winter. It's usually not this chilly in LA but since we've had this cold snap, our scarves are keeping us warm and looking cute.
