Ready Fur My Close-Up: Portraits Fur Puppies

Last Saturday MamaBear took me on a special mommy and me outing! We went to the Dawg Squad adoption fair at the Centinela Feed in Westchester. Our furiend, Grace of Shine Pet Photos, was donating her time and talent to help them raise money fur some very sick puppies they are taking care of. The public and Dawg Squad supporters were invited to come and have their pooches mug shot by Grace. Fur $25 that pup could be a super model and once the shoot was over, receive a digital file of their favorite shot. All bones raised went to help the puppies.
Portraits Fur Puppies raised $875 bones to help the litter of puppies rescued from the streets of Compton. These puppies were horribly emaciated and very, very sick. One even succumbed to parvo and is an angel now. The vet bill was $10,000 bones! So the money raised from Saturday really means alot to the Dawg Squad.
Now the puppies are feeling better and are looking furward to finding loving furever homes thanks to the Dawg Squad's care.

I, of course, had a blast wiggling my tail in front of the camera. Rumor has it I've been called a diva to work with....but hey I'm a good looking pup and I know it! That's just confidence anipals. Now I'm having a tough time choosing which photo to select as my digital file...maybe my furiends who paw my blog and Facebook page could help me choose?!

Below are my four photos to choose from. Leave a comment on my blog barking at me which one you think I should choose. Thanks anipals!

Betty's Sock Bop

My foster sister Betty came to us with a severe case of mange. After a month of treatment we thought it was under control but it keeps coming back and requires constant care due to her suppressed immune system. Recently she had an outbreak and she was scratching herself raw so MamaBear had to get creative to keep her comfortable. The solution? Betty started wearing socks.
Betty's socks are made by Doggy Style Designs and MamaBear bought them at one of our favorite pet pawtiques, Maxwell Dog. The socks come is a set of 4 (of course) and come in many different colors. Betty has green ones and she told me she's hoping she gets a pink set.
The great thing about the socks is that they have non-skid raised tread on the bottom so when Betty walks around she doesn't slip and fall.
They also keep her from scratching herself raw. She only wears them when supervised by MamaBear and not while she's sleeping or when it's hot out.
Some other great uses for them according to Doggy Style Designs are:
  • Keeps dog's paws warm in cool weather
  • For in between shoes or boot sizes, socks provide a better fit
  • Provides warmth for arthritic dogs
Betty is feeling much better these days thanks to her fancy socks!

My 5th Birthday!

Yesterday, May 15th was my 5th Birthday but we celebrated today. MamaBear took me out for a mommy and me day. First we stopped by the Healthy Spot where they gave me a special birthday num num!
While I was sniffing around the store I made some new furiends. MamaBear was really proud of me because one of them was bigger than me and I played with him nicely. After we spent some time in the store buying me treats and presents, we took my special birthday num num to the park and hung out just the two of us!
I had a lot of fun eating my treat.
After I ate my treat MamaBear and I enjoyed a sunny day at the park.
I really enjoyed sniffing the grass and watching all the action. I even took a nap.
Of course it wouldn't be a birthday without presents! I got 2 new toys from Canine Genius, a stuffed chicken leg that makes chicken noises and a piece of steak that sounds like a cow. BOL. I also got a bully stick to chew on.
I got one more present that was so pawsome I was barking my head off and wagging my tail like a crazy dog! My very own photoshoot with Shine Pet Photos!!!! I am so excited and can't wait to be a supermodel! This was the best birthday!

Silver Spoon Dog And Baby Event

This weekend was the Silver Spoon Dog and Baby Event at the Hyatt Century Plaza.
The pawty was held in the hotel garden and was a celebrity gifting suite focused on the baby and canine members of the family. There were many unique and wonderful vendors there showcasing their pawducts to the members of the media, and press as well as the celebrity attendees. What really made this event special was that it all benefitted Best Friends thanks to actress Denise Richards who suggested to the organizers that it benefit one of her favorite charities.
As guests strolled and sniffed through the garden they were treated to swag from vendors like Gardin an organic kids clothing line; Sugar Bean who treated MamaBear to a lovely pair of gold paw print earrings; Heaven To Home makers of the Angels for Animals soy candles and reed diffusers; Mochi & Jolie a dog clothing line inspired by 2 malteses; Cozy Puff Dog Beds dog beds approved by Betty; The Honey Dog Company maker of the Wan-Wan Bon-Bon a nutritious and tasty dog biscuit and supplement; BarkCode a pet identification system that utilizes smart phone technology; iRescueRover maker of animal themed graphic shirts to support animal rescue efforts; and our furiend Grace of Shine Pet Photos top dog in pet photography here in Los Angeles.
With all the shopping going on there were some pooped puppies out there so Cesar had a nice lounge where the couture canines could put up their paws and sample a few treats.
Also mingling in the crowd were Best Friends volunteers with adoptable dogs being showcased at the event. Quite a few pups received applications and I'm sure those lucky dogs will be moving into their new furever homes this week. So PAWSOME!

Meet Betty

We have a new senior Chihuahua living with us and her name is Betty. Betty is somewhere between 13 and 15 years old and after years of neglect she found herself at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter. She was brought in by someone claiming to have found her stray but she was in such horrible condition we think they were the owners or knew the owners.

Poor little Betty was covered in mange, roughly 80% of her body was missing hair, red and raw and her eyes were swollen shut. She was only in the shelter fur a few days before she was rescued by Best Friends staff member Robin Harmon who was at the shelter getting ready fur "Pup My Ride." She felt so bad fur Betty she took her directly to the vet and then emailed my MamaBear who loves mangey old Chihuahuas. Of course MamaBear said she could come here.
With proper care and medication Betty's mange really started to heal and as the swelling went down and her skin healed and the hair grew back her personality really came out and let me bark to you she is bossy! She has taken over the dog beds, couch, you name it!
Unfurtunately Betty does have cancer, Mast Cell Tumors, which look like fatty tumors but are actually much more serious. The visible tumors are in areas that are difficult to remove like on her leg which means amputating. Since that wouldn't be fair to Betty she is being treated with medication to shrink the tumors and is responding nicely.
Even though she has had a rough life, she has the spririt to overcome her hardships and is now quite the spoiled Chihuahua. She inherited many of Mama's fine garments but also has a few snappy outfits of her own. She loves going on outings and gets lots of attention. She's even met a few celebrities! Edi Gathegi, Laurent from Twilight and New Moon and LA Laker, Ron Artest.
Betty is another hospice foster. She'll live with us for as long as she has but I think the old girl's got a whole lotta life left in her. Woof.
